Galicia is a self-governed community located in NW Spain. It borders Portugal
on the south, the Spanish regions of Castilla - León and Asturias on the east, and the Atlantic Ocean
on the north and west.
With its origins in an ancient Celtic tribe, this region was also marked by a long
occupation of the Roman Empire, all of which is still visible as the core of their culture
and identity.
Full of forests, green hills, cliffs and beautiful beaches, Galicia also offers a rare
geographic feature known by the locals as "rías", or fjord-like indentations
on the coast.
The region is well known for the delicious cuisine based on fish and shellfish, as well as for some high quality
wines. The grape varieties used are local and rarely found outside Galicia and Northern Portugal.
Above all, Galicia is also known for its magic. Thousands of years of popular tales, as well
as films and books, have been telling the story of how this place shifts our perception of reality
to the realm of what can not be described with words.
While still a fairly undiscovered region for many, it is the purpose of this guide to introduce
Galicia to the World.
